We are delighted to announce that The Centre for Reconciliation (TCfR) was nominated for two Mitzvah Day Awards — and proudly won the Year-Round Award for our work with the Lincoln Hygiene Bank, a project that unites faith communities in service to those in need.
With the ongoing support of diverse faith groups across Lincoln, the Lincoln Hygiene Bank now operates at six locations across the city, five of which are based in places of worship. These communities not only provide space but also supply dedicated volunteers and generous donations that make our hygiene sessions possible.
A highlight of our work this year was the Winter Appeal, held during Mitzvah Day and Seva Day 2024. Over a few months, more than 2,000 hygiene products were donated. The Hindu community collected supplies during Navratri and Diwali, several local churches contributed donations, and the Lincolnshire Jewish Community actively participated as well. In November, volunteers from multiple faiths came together to count, sort, and distribute the donations in a powerful display of unity and compassion.
The appeal was launched with the support of the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Alan Briggs, who praised the initiative as a valuable effort addressing real needs within the community.
The award ceremony took place last night at a synagogue in London. Representing TCfR were Subash Chellaiah, Charles Shaw, and Rachael Phillips, Chair of the Lincolnshire Jewish Community.
Rachael shared:“Lincolnshire Jewish Community is proud to work with the Lincoln Hygiene Bank and The Centre for Reconciliation. Congratulations on winning the Mitzvah Day Award! By working together, we can create a better community and help others.”
This award is a testament to what can be achieved when faith communities collaborate for a common good showing that compassion, dignity, and service truly transcend all boundaries.
