An inclusive Samathuva Pongal (Pongal of Equality) celebration was held on Tuesday, 13 January at the Florence Swainson Higher Secondary School for the Deaf, highlighting the values of equality, inclusiveness, and social harmony. The festival was celebrated with the belief that everyone, regardless of differences, should participate on an equal footing.

The event was organised under the leadership of Mr Kumar from Thulir Educational Trust. The programme was presided over by School Correspondent Dr Jacob and was attended by Peace Bridge Director Cinthamani Rammasuppu, Retired High Court Advocate Anbu Angappan, Kani Bhai, and other distinguished guests. Their presence and guidance contributed significantly to the success of the event.


As part of the Samathuva Pongal celebrations, over 300 students participated enthusiastically. Sweet Pongal was prepared collectively, and sugarcane was distributed to all students and guests. Special arrangements were made to ensure the full participation of deaf students, reinforcing the core message of equality and inclusion.

Students and staff actively took part in the celebration, making the programme meaningful and memorable. The event highlighted the importance of cultural unity, inclusiveness, and equal participation in society.
