At Little Elephant School, India’s 77th Republic Day was celebrated with colour, creativity, and heartfelt pride. The day commemorates 26 January 1950, when India became a sovereign republic, adopting its Constitution and affirming the values of democracy, equality, and freedom. For our school community—home to families from many community groups—it was a moment to honour India’s enduring spirit and to inspire children with the universal ideals of justice and unity.
Learning the Meaning of the Day
Teachers introduced the significance of Republic Day in ways that were engaging and age-appropriate, helping children understand why this day holds deep meaning for millions around the world. Through storytelling, images, and lively discussion, pupils explored India’s journey to independence and the creation of its Constitution. They learned how the principles of democracy and inclusion continue to shape the nation’s identity and why these values matter globally.
A Celebration of India’s National Symbols
To bring their learning to life, children collaborated on a stunning wall display showcasing India’s national symbols. Their artwork featured the mango, banyan tree, tiger, peacock, lotus, and hockey—each representing a facet of India’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. The display became a joyful expression of pride and creativity, filling the classroom with colour and meaning.
Creative Republic Day Crafts
The celebration continued with hands-on art activities. Younger pupils crafted peacocks with tail feathers in the colours of the Indian tricolour, while older children drew intricate pictures of India’s national emblems. The atmosphere was alive with enthusiasm as every child contributed their imagination and care, creating a shared sense of accomplishment and belonging.
