At Little Elephant School, India’s 77th Republic Day was celebrated with colour, creativity, and heartfelt pride. The day commemorates 26 January 1950, when India became a sovereign republic, adopting its Constitution and affirming the values of democracy, equality, and freedom. For our school community—home to families from many community groups—it was a moment to honour India’s enduring spirit and to inspire children with the universal ideals of justice and unity.
Learning the Meaning of the Day
Teachers introduced the significance of Republic Day in ways that were engaging and age-appropriate, helping children understand why this day holds deep meaning for millions around the world. Through storytelling, images, and lively discussion, pupils explored India’s journey to independence and the creation of its Constitution. Their artwork featured the mango, banyan tree, tiger, peacock, lotus, and hockey—each representing a facet of India’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
