On 9 July 2025, the Taste of Unity Kitchen was officially launched with a vibrant taster session at its new home in Lincoln. The launch was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Clare Smalley, alongside Marc Jones, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire, who both praised the initiative as a beacon of community spirit.

The event brought together friends and interfaith networks from across Greater Lincolnshire to celebrate unity, culture, and connection. Guests were treated to food prepared by volunteers from different communities, symbolising the project’s central aim: to bring people together across cultures and faiths through the simple act of sharing a meal.

Beginning in October 2025, Taste of Unity Kitchen sessions will run monthly, offering warm meals that are open to everyone. Alongside this, the kitchen will support people experiencing hardship in the city, helping to tackle both food poverty and isolation.

The initiative is led by the Centre for Reconciliation (TCfR), an interfaith organisation that provides the infrastructure and oversight. A steering committee—made up of members from different faith communities—guides the project, ensuring it responds to local needs and reflects shared values. Inspired by conversations with the Nottingham Shalom Kitchen, which the team visited in July, the Lincoln project has been shaped by listening, learning, and adapting to the local context.

At its heart, the Taste of Unity Kitchen is a place of friendship, not confrontation. Its values are rooted in respect, collaboration, and the “golden rules” of TCfR. Wherever possible, the kitchen will use sustainable and surplus food, helping to reduce waste while feeding people with dignity.

The launch was a true celebration of what can be achieved when communities come together. Volunteers played a vital role—from cooking to cleaning—ensuring the day’s success. As one participant reflected, Taste of Unity is not just about food — it is about peace, harmony, and building stronger bonds across Lincolnshire.
