On 25 August 2025, Ruth and Subash, together with their children, had the privilege of meeting The Right Reverend Paul Francis Ravichandran, the newly appointed Bishop of the CSI Madras Diocese. The gathering was held at the Lite Auditorium in Kilpauk, where the family was warmly welcomed with flowers, clothing, and books. They were also received by Professor Samuel Cornelious, the Diocesan Treasurer, along with several senior clergy members from the Diocese.

Subash opened the meeting by introducing the family and sharing about the work of the Centre for Reconciliation (TCfR). He highlighted their deep personal ties to the Diocese of Madras through Ruth’s family and members of his own, making the encounter particularly meaningful.

Bishop Paul outlined his vision for the Diocese, focusing on three key priorities: healthcare, education, and peace and reconciliation. He spoke of the urgent need for improved medical equipment, including CT scanners for the Diocese’s three hospitals—Rainy, Ikkadu, and Kalyani. He also stressed the vital importance of delivering quality education to rural communities, recognising it as key to the future of children across the region. Notably, Bishop Paul emphasized the Diocese’s new commitment to peace and reconciliation, elevating it to a central part of their mission.

Professor Cornelious reflected on the historic links between the Diocese of Madras and the UK, especially with the Diocese of Carlisle, from which Ruth originates. He expressed regret over the decline of these connections and a desire to re-establish meaningful partnerships—particularly with TCfR and Carlisle.

Subash affirmed TCfR’s commitment to working alongside the Diocese in education, healthcare, and reconciliation. In recognition of this shared vision, he was invited to speak at the Diocesan Council in January 2027 to present TCfR’s interfaith and reconciliation work. He also pledged to open conversations with the Dioceses of Lincoln and Carlisle to explore renewed collaboration.
